Swaranjit Savi

Ajmer Rode: Translation from Punjabi into English

Aesthetics Publications, Ludhiana, India, 1999; pages 55

Desire is an English translation of Dehi Naad, a  poetry book by a well-known modern Punjabi poet and painter, Sawarnjit Savi.

"Sawarnjit Savi's collection of poems is a witness to the fact that Punjabi poetry is transcending the tradition of modernist realism and is making forays into the post-modernist paradigm - Amarjit Grewal (in preface).

  A Poem from Desire

Radha:

a craze  a love

a stream flowing fast

a morning, pure and sweeping

a raga, crimson, on the flute of heart

a dew freshly fallen on a flower

Rukmani:

an ocean

a penance

a yoga

And I:

a flow wandering in between

exhausted  tired

irritated

a sad writing on a stone
